  • Take the micro & big memory card out of their plastic case and on the bottom of the big SD card there should be a slit into which the micro SD card fits perfectly

  • Then on the side of your computer (on the macbook Pro it’s on the left side of the computer) there should be a slit for the SD cards so insert them into the computer
  • Scroll down until you see two option NOOBS and NOOBS Lite, you want NOOBS so click download ZIP under the NOOBS (offline and network install) option, this will install the version with the Raspbian software on it
  • Now you need to format your SD card so go to: https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter_4/
  • Scroll to the bottom of the page until you see this: Screen Shot 2017-09-29 at 5.31.37 PM.png
  • Then click on the blue bar that says ‘For Mac’ and it will bring you to a pgae full of conditions, scroll to the bottom and click ‘accept’ and it will download the SD card formatter automatically
  • Open it and a screen will appear telling you to follow the directions, do that
  • Open a finder window and go into the NOOBS_v2_4_4 folder that you downloaded earlier and find a file that says ‘INSTRUCTIONS-READ ME.txt’ and open it
  • Follow those directions to format your SD card and if you can’t find them then they are in the picture below, and I will also rewrite the ones we haven’t already done:
  • Once the formatting tool has been downloaded and all the terms have been accepted then select ‘overwrite format’ follow the instructions under Mac
  • Check that the SD card you inserted matches the one selected by the Formatting Tool
  • Click the format button (you screen should look like the one below)

  • After a successful format this window should pop up:

  • Extract the files contained in this NOOBS zip file
  • Copy the extracted files onto the SD card that you just formatted so that this file is at the root directory of the SD card
**Please note that in some cases it may extract the files into a folder, if this is the case then please copy across the files from inside the folder rather than the folder itself
  • Make sure you eject your SD card before taking it out, then take it out and separate the micro card from the normal one
  • Make sure the metal stripes from your microSD card are facing upward

  • Turn your RaspPi over so you see something like the picture below and then make sure the metal stripes of your microSD card are facing down when you put it in the slot pointed out in the picture below
Screen Shot 2017-09-22 at 8.07.03 PM.pngInsert MicroSD card to this slot
  • Turn your RaspPi over again and you should notice a twinkling light in the upper left corner of your RaspPi
  • Connect your RaspPi charging cable into the slot that says micro USB power input that  is shown in the ‘Get to know your RaspPi’ picture at the top of this document
  • Connect your HDMI cable and your mouse and keyboard to the USB ports on the RaspPi
  • Your Pi will now boot into NOOBS and should display a list of operating systems that you can choose to install
  • Below these choice there is a menu to choose the language, choose English, US
  • Then click the check mark next to the option that says Raspbian and then in the upper left hand corner there is an option that says ‘Install (1)’, choose that option
  • The installation should take about 10-20 minutes although for me it took about an hour but after it is installed your should a windows-like computer screen on your monitorScreen Shot 2017-09-22 at 8.20.47 PM.png
**If your display remains blank, you should select the correct output mode for your display by pressing one of the following number keys on your keyboard:
1. HDMI mode - this is the default display mode.
2. HDMI safe mode - select this mode if you are using the HDMI connector and cannot see anything on screen when the Pi has booted.
3. Composite PAL mode - select either this mode or composite NTSC mode if you are using the composite RCA video connector.
4. Composite NTSC mode
